About venue
Set on the southern shore of the Loire estuary, Atlantic Coast Woodland Retreat is a 100-acre private estate comprising of three separate dwellings that can accommodate up to 20 guests. With spacious rooms and high ceilings, the property welcomes you with décor full of charm and nostalgia.
With its origins dating back to the 14th Century, the property is surrounded by privately owned 100 acres of forest, including a pond available for fishing, private woodland for walks and also cycling treks. A paradise for nature lovers, the woods are home to multiple species of fauna, including rabbits, red squirrels, roe deer, herons, owls and an occasional glimpse of the local kingfisher.
After burning down in the late 90s the property has undergone significant renovations and additions, the most recent being the 14-metre heated outdoor pool.
The sizeable estate is located in the heart of the Marais, a bird watcher’s paradise, where you can admire stalks, stilts, hoopoes, sacred ibis, herons, egrets and many more.
You can also enjoy learning about the secrets of salt production or take a 15-minute drive to the beach to enjoy a swim in the warm ocean waters.

Outside of the main towns and nestled in our own private domain, the only things breaking the silence is the sound of birds and wildlife.
view moreAtlantic Coast Woodland Retreat boasts four en-suite bedrooms (two of which have twin beds which can be used as super king-size or two singles, one four-poster super king and one four-poster king) on the first floor with beautiful views overlooking the gardens.
The Master bedroom also has a dressing room that can be used as a single or twin room. Each room has been fully refurbished to reflect the original elegance with reclaimed woodwork used throughout. A well-stocked library equipped with a printer and reading corner is also located on the first floor.
On the ground floor, you will find a fully equipped modern open-plan kitchen that seats up to eight guests. A laundry room complete with washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing facilities is situated at the rear of the house. The main dining room, complimented by its large portes-fenêtres and open fire seats up to 14 people and is the perfect space for entertaining guests.
The drawing room houses a grand piano and leads into the main living room with a flat-screen TV and Wi-Fi. There are also two toilets on the ground floor (one of which also has a shower).
An outdoor terrace and BBQ facilities are also available in the main house for outdoor dining.
The Canardière offers four bedrooms across two floors.
On the first floor, there is one twin room and two double rooms (one with a small double bed and one with a super-king that can be used as is or split into a twin).
On the ground floor, there is an en-suite super-king.
The house overlooks the pool and has its own kitchen and separate dining and living room.
There is a large indoor space at the back of the house which can be used for indoor activities such as yoga or other exercising with its own bathroom which opens up onto the pool or the back field with its large double doors.
The property comes equipped with a flat-screen TV and Wi-Fi. The property also has a ground-floor toilet and a shared bathroom on the first floor.

Atlantic Coast Woodland Retreat is located at the front of the property and overlooks our well-manicured gardens with roses, linden trees, chestnuts and many more beautiful flora. Past the pool, the path continues around the pond and into our 100-acre woods.
The forest has a main alleyway leading from the D13 road down to the castle. There are a further four parallel paths as well as perpendicular lanes that are all practicable by foot. Furthermore, the parallel lanes all lead to the Atlantic Coast Woodland Retreat and the estate is walled all around so you won't get lost.
Wander through the old oak trees and spot the local birds and even sometimes the deer, hares and squirrels that live within the grounds. In spring and summer, you will frequently see storks flying overhead and shelducks and herons fishing in the pond.
How to get there
By plane:
Fly into Nantes Airport (international airport flying to most destinations in Europe) and head to the property by car. It's only a 30min drive.
By Train:
You can train to Nantes from most French stations and from there take a local TER to Machecoul. There, take a taxi to the property (5min)
There is plenty of parking on site for those coming by car.
As a venue organiser, it is also possible to organise coach/bus transportation.
