About retreat

Imagine a unique “Rewilding Retreat” at Brokkestøylen, set against the majestic mountains and wild nature of Setesdal. This retreat combines the power of nature with a variety of activities that strengthen both body and mind, offering participants the opportunity to connect deeply with both nature—and themselves.

1. Wim Hof Method: Start the day with breathing techniques and cold-water immersion in crystal-clear mountain lakes to sharpen mind and body, build resilience, and find calm in challenging conditions. Certified instructors will guide the practice to ensure that everyone feels safe while stepping outside their comfort zones.

2. Mindfulness and Meditation: Focus on finding peace and presence in nature with daily mindfulness sessions. Held outdoors, participants can take advantage of the serene atmosphere, sounds of the mountains, and fresh air, which enhance the effects of meditation.

3. Bushcraft and Wilderness Skills: Learn essential survival skills like fire-building, shelter construction, and orientation. These practical skills allow participants to connect with nature and learn how to rely on its resources—skills that promote self-reliance and confidence.

4. Healthy Food for Body and Mind: Meals are carefully composed to support the needs of both body and mind. Ingredients are sourced locally and prepared with a focus on clean, nutritious, and local foods. The aim is to enhance energy and mental clarity.

5. Leadership Training in Nature: Through practical exercises and group work, participants are encouraged to develop their leadership skills in an informal but inspiring setting. Cooperation, communication, and resilience are emphasized, as is nature as an honest and demanding teacher.

Diary of a participant:

Day 1 – Arrival, First Breath & Tracking the Body
I arrived at Brokkestøylen today, greeted by crisp mountain air and a group of people who, like me, were here to push beyond their limits. The transfer from the airport was smooth, but as I stepped out of the car, I felt a mix of excitement and nerves. This was it—the start of something intense, something real.
After checking in and settling into our rooms, we were given a blood sugar measurement device. The idea was to track how our bodies responded to food, fasting, and physical activity throughout the retreat. It felt like a unique way to connect with my body on a deeper level, not just mentally but biologically too.
Our first breathing session followed. At first, it felt unfamiliar—controlled inhales, deep, intentional exhales—but as I settled into the rhythm, I felt something shift. A sense of calm, clarity, and a strange, tingling energy spread through my body.
Later in the afternoon, we set out for a hike to a stunning viewpoint. The climb was challenging but rewarding—the vast landscape stretched endlessly below us. I stood there, inhaling the cool air, feeling my heart pounding, and realizing just how alive I felt.
Dinner was well-earned, warm, and nourishing. As we ate, there was an unspoken understanding between us—we had all chosen to be here for a reason. After dinner, we had some free time, and I used it to just sit in silence, listening to the wind. Tomorrow, we would leave basecamp and head into the wild. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I knew one thing: I was ready.

Day 2 – Into the Wild
The morning was all about preparation—packing our gear, organizing supplies, and making sure we had everything we needed for the next couple of days in the wilderness. There would be no signal, no distractions—just us and nature.
We started with a canoe trip across the lakes, the water so still and reflective it felt like paddling through glass. There was something peaceful about the silence, just the soft splash of paddles breaking the surface.
Once we reached the other side, we built our own camp. No modern comforts, no pre-made shelters—just raw survival. We worked together, gathering wood, setting up tents, and learning how to find food in the wild. The idea of completely fending for myself felt daunting at first, but as the day went on, it started to feel… natural.
As night fell, we sat around the fire, staring into the flames. The world outside felt distant, almost unreal. For the first time in a long time, I wasn’t thinking about emails, notifications, or schedules. I was just here, in the moment.

Day 3 – Facing Discomfort
I woke up to cold air and silence—the kind of silence that only deep nature can offer. No cars, no buzzing phones, just the sound of the wind rustling through the trees.
We started the day with another breathing session, right there in the wild. The more I practiced, the more I understood how powerful this was—not just as a technique, but as a way to truly control my body and mind.
Then came the challenge: hiking shirtless. My mind immediately resisted. It was cold, my body tensed up, and I wanted to turn back. But step by step, breath by breath, I pushed through. At some point, the discomfort melted away. The cold was no longer the enemy—it was just a sensation.
Later, we had a session diving deep into the Wim Hof Method—the science, the mindset, the way our bodies are capable of so much more than we think. Everything started to make sense.
That night, the campfire felt different. We weren’t just a group of individuals anymore. We had struggled together, pushed through the same challenges, and come out stronger.

Day 4 – Reflection & Stillness
After two days in the wild, we returned to basecamp. A hot shower would have been nice, but surprisingly, I didn’t crave it as much as I thought I would.
Today was about slowing down, reflecting on everything we had experienced. We went on a silent walk in the woods, something that sounded simple but ended up being incredibly powerful. Without talking, without distractions, I felt deeply connected to my surroundings, noticing things I would have normally overlooked—the patterns in the bark, the distant sounds of birds, the way the wind moved through the trees.
In the afternoon, we took a cold water dip, followed by meditation and breathwork. Each time I entered the cold water, I felt more in control. It wasn’t just about enduring anymore—it was about embracing.
Before bed, we had a session on vitamins, minerals, hormones, and supplements—understanding how our bodies function at a deeper level. It was fascinating to learn how things like diet, fasting, and breathing could directly impact our energy and well-being.
________________________________________
Day 5 – The Final Challenge
With everything we had learned, today was about pushing our limits one last time.
The morning started with a reflection session—how had we changed since Day 1? How had our bodies adapted to the cold, the challenges, the stillness? The answers weren’t just in our words but in our posture, our breath, our newfound strength.
Then came the real test: via ferrata climbing. A sheer rock face, secured only by cables and our own determination. Every muscle in my body screamed at me to stop, but I kept going. Reaching the top wasn’t just about conquering the climb—it was about proving to myself that I could do more than I ever imagined.
Later, we had our final ice bath, this time together as a group. We entered the freezing water in silence, our breathing controlled, our minds steady. No fear, no hesitation—just pure presence.
That night, our final dinner was a celebration. Not just of the retreat, but of who we had become. Laughter filled the room, and for the first time in days, the idea of going home felt strange.
________________________________________
Day 6 – Goodbye, But Not the End
The morning was quiet. Our final cold dip, our final extended breathing session, and one last meditation to seal in everything we had learned.
We packed our bags, knowing that while we were leaving this place, we weren’t leaving behind the experience. Back home, we would continue tracking how our bodies responded to food and movement, and soon, we’d receive feedback on our bloodwork tests, helping us understand even more about our health.
Saying goodbye wasn’t easy, but I wasn’t the same person who had arrived here six days ago. I was stronger. More aware. More alive.
As I headed to the airport, I took one last deep breath, feeling the cold air fill my lungs. This wasn’t the end—this was just the beginning.
